Yoga to Prevent Dowager’s Hump
In a person suffering from Dowager’s Hump, the spine bends abnormally to form a curvature at the upper back. This usually affects older women; and is mostly caused by osteoporosis. Dowager’s hump is preventable like most osteoporotic changes. With yoga practice, you can prevent the attack of Dowager’s hump.
Ushtra Asana or the Camel Pose
- Sit on your knees with your buttocks resting on your heels.
- Take your hands backward, grasp your left ankle with your left hand and your right ankle with your right hand.
- While inhaling, tilt your head back. Lift your buttocks off the heels and thrust your abdomen forward. Your back will be in an arch like position.
- Breathe gently as you remain in this posture. Try to remain in this posture for half to one minute.
- As you exhale, come back to the original position.
- Repeat the posture three times.
This yogasana stretches and strengthens your back, spine, shoulders and arms thus defending you from Dowager’s hump.
