Liver Fibrosis

Liver fibrosis is the process of scarring which shows, the response of the liver to an injury. This response is very much similar to that of the skin and other organs. As the skin and other organs heal their wounds by depositing collagen and other matrix constituents in the same way liver heals its wound by depositing collagen in it.

This condition of healing takes place whenever the cells of liver are damaged. The damage in the cells of liver is the result of the collection of some chemical. Usually, the liver is a self repairing organism. But, intake of alcohol for a longer duration results in the collection of chemical which hinders the repairing techniques and rather damage them further which results in this condition.

Causes Of Liver Fibrosis:
The causes of liver fibrosis includes:

  • Chronic Viral Hepatitis B
  • Excessive intake of alcohol for a longer duration of time
  • Chronic Hepatitis
  • Non- alcoholic fatty liver disease

Symptoms Of Liver Fibrosis:
Some of the symptoms of liver fibrosis includes:

  • Jaundice
  • Variceal bleeding
  • Encephalopathy
  • Ascites
  • Muscle wasting

Apart from these, inflammation and pain in the abdominal region will there. In severe cases, vomiting with blood is also possible. The skin and whites of your eyes will turn yellow, count of red blood cells will go down all indicating a problem in your liver.

Treatment Of Liver Fibrosis:
The treatment requires:

  • Intake of alcohol must be stopped with immediate effect.
  • If you smoke or take some drug then it must also be stopped immediately.
  • Consult your doctor and accordingly take medicine which will enhance the formation of RBCs in the body.
  • In advance cases, biopsy is conducted to see the level of damage the liver has faced. Depending upon this damage only, the treatment is carried out.
