Tetraplegia
Tetraplegia is also known as Quadriplegia. It is the condition of paralysis which is caused by any injury or illness to any person. This condition results in partial and total loss in the limbs utility and torso. The loss of sensation and control over the limb is lost in this condition.
Causes Of Tetraplegia:
Some of the conditions of Tetraplegia includes:
- Damage to spinal cord or brain. Injury of the cervical causes extreme consequences than spinal injury.
- A injury called as lesion can result in this condition. This is because such injury disables all limbs from functioning.
- Any kind of trauma like car accident, falling from a distant height or some sports injury or some kind of disease polio, spina bifidia etc.
Symptoms Of Tetraplegia:
Some common symptoms of this condition includes:
- Impairment of limbs.
- Functioning of the torso is also impaired. This results in loss of control over the bladder and bowel movements, digestion, sexual function, breathing and other autonomic functions.
- Impaired sensation in affected parts. This will result in burning , numbness and reduced sensation in the affected part of the body.
- Due to the immobility of the body parts there are a fair chances of osteoporosis, pressure sores, spasticity, frozen joints, fractures, respiratory complication, infections of various types, deep vein thrombosis, autonomic dysreflexia, and cardio vascular disease.
- In intense or severe cases, complete loss in the functioning of the body happens. The severity of the symptoms mostly depends on the severity or the extend of injury to spinal cord.
