Day- time Dozing Can Cause Strokes

Most people like to take a nap in the afternoon. Dozing helps them to feel refreshed and relaxed. At the same time, an afternoon nap can cause strokes in elderly people, according to U.S researchers. The risk of a stroke is two to four times higher in the case of those who doze in the afternoon as compared to those who do not (source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7257270.stm). Let us observe this further.

Why Dozing is Bad?

  • Older people who doze off in front of T.V. set during the daytime can suffer from a stroke
  • The risk of heart attack or death from vascular disease was increased
  • Daytime sleepiness can be due to poor sleeping at night due to sleep apnoea (breathing stops during sleep)
  • Disturbed sleep at night is a problem
  • Those who suffered from sleep apnea had increased blood pressure levels at night while sleeping
  • Minor undiagnosed strokes can cause the sleepiness during the daytime
  • Dozing of unintentionally and frequently is bad

One should avoid dozing in the afternoon. It is sign of not having slept properly the night before. The elderly are at a risk of having a stroke. Dozing off in front of the T.V. or while reading a book should be avoided
