It is important to keep all the rooms in your home clean and dust free, but no room is quite as important as the room in which you spend most of your time: the bedroom.
To keep your allergies under control, try to keep your bedroom looking like the one in this illustration.
- Pick polyester pillows. Those filled with feathers or foam rubber should be encased in plastic. While you’re at it, it’s best to encase the mattress, too.
- Keep all your clothes in closets with the closet doors shut at all times.
- The best blankets are washable ones made of polyester or nylon. Get rid of those fuzzy wool blankets.
- Keep your floors bare. Carpeting attracts and holds dust. If you don’t want cold tootsies, go for a throw rug rather than wall-to-wall carpet. Rugs at least can be washed.
- Go for washable window shades and curtains. Lined, heavy drapes have no lace in the bedroom, and venetian blinds are expert at catching and holding dust.
- Furniture should be simple and uncluttered. Knickknacks, such as pictures and particularly stuffed animals, should b moved to another room.
- Shove your dogs and cats out of the bedroom and make them stay out.
