Night Skin Care Routine Made Simple

skin-careAfter a long day beating around the hot, dusty city, your face deserves a good wash before you retire for the night. You do want to be careful, however, that you don’t wash out the skin’s moisture along with the dirt and grime.

If you tend to have dry skin, consider giving up soap in favour of mild cleansing lotion designed especially for dry and sensitive skin (check with your pharmacist). Or, if you prefer a bar of soap, choose a mild soap that contains cold creams, coconut oil, lanolin, or cocoa butter.

The nightly skin-care routine should consist of four steps :
1)

Removing your makeup

: Removing your face and eye makeup is the first step to proper dry-skin care at night. Remove your makeup with an oil-base cream or lotion and use special removers for eye makeup.

2)

Cleansing

: Choose a mild soap or cleansing lotion designed especially for dry skin. Look for a cleanser that contains cold cream, coconut oil, lanolin, or cocoa butter. You want to lather up your face and neck using warm, not hot, water. Now pat dry with a soft towel. If your skin is very dry, consider blow-drying rather than using a towel. Flip the dryer from warm to cool.

3)

Applying a toner

: Choose an alcohol-free toner for its mild ingredients, usually water mixed with menthol or camphor. Saturate a cotton pad and smooth the toner over your face and throat using upward strokes.

4)

Moisturizing

: A moisturizer also helps. By applying it after washing, you seal in the moisture. In fact, it should be applied only to damp skin. If you apply a cream or oil to dry skin, the skin underneath stays dry.
