Treat at Home : Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is a curious name. There is really nothing athletic about this miserable, itchy fungus, except its persistence. When it takes hold of your toes, it refuses to let go. The moisture produced by the sweating glands present in each foot helps in the growth of fungi.

Athlete’s foot is a contagious infection so it is recommended to take precaution. The skin starts flaking off, taking on a white, oniony look. You may also feel a burning sensation.

The suggested treatment besides daily hygiene is :

  • Dry feet very well and apply any type of cream with

salicylic acid and aloe vera or aloe vera with propolis.

  • Rub a mixture made of equal parts of

baking soda and aloe vera gel.

  • Completely dry all moisture from your feet after bathing and put some

    talcum powder or baking soda

on your feet and in your shoes ; this will absorb moisture as well as unpleasant odors.

  • Applying

    cool compresses

will relieve the inflammation and a salt water soak can help soften the skin.

  • One of the best things you can do for a foot so afflicted is to expose it to the

    sunlight

. Let the air circulate freely around your toes.

  • A daily foot bath with

    mild soap

and water, a thorough drying, and application of an anti-fungal ointment will help.

  • Don’t wear

    plastic or waterproof

    shoes.

  • Put your

    shoes out in the sun

for a while to control the fungus.

  • Don’t share

    bath towels, bath mats,

or anything moist and porous that comes in contact with the feet.
