Somatization disorder or Briquet’s disorder is a psychiatric condition in which the patient complains of persistant and chronic physical symptoms which have not originated from the identifiable physical origin. In this condition the internal psychological conflicts are expressed unconsciously in the form of the physical signs.
Causes Of Somatization Disorder:
There are various theories for the development of Somatization Disorder. According to the oldest theory, all the stress and strain of the body is managed by the brain of our body. But brain also has its limit and after that point it can not handle it. So, in case, it transfers the relative stress and strain to the other body parts especially to the digestive system, reproductive system, and nervous system. It is for the same reason that most of the people with irritable bowel syndrome, mostly suffer from this condition.
Another theory in this regard says that few people are hypersensitive and thus can even feel the slightest pain which the brain normally neglects.So, according to this theory somatization disorder is very much associated to the panic attack. Thus both the conditions are closely associated.
Thus, it can be concluded that digestive system, nervous system, immune system are all interrelated. Any kind of changes or diseases in any of these systems can result in somatization disorder.

- Pain in the back
- Diarrhea
- Bloating
- Headaches
- Pain in joints
- Irregular menstruation
- Palpitations
- Paralysis or weakness in the muscles
- Shortness in breath
- Pain in the legs and arms
- Changes in the vision
- Vomiting
- Impotence
