Cryptococcosis or cryptoccocal disease is a fatal disease which is caused by a fungus called ‘Cryptococcus neoformans’. This disease is an acquired disease in which the propagule of the fungi are inhaled from the surrounding environment.
This fungus is found in the soil and when enters body it infects it through lungs. As it is inhaled through the air it reaches and gets settled in the lungs and late disseminate throughout the body. People with weak immune system like those who suffer from HIV infection suffer from such infections.
Symptoms Of Cryptococcosis:
- Vision will be Blurred
- Pain in the chest and bones
- State of confusion will be there
- Dry cough
- Fatigue, fever, headache, nausea are common feature
- Rashes or spots of red color will noticed on the skin
- Unusual and excessive sweating will be there especially at nights
- Glands will swell up
- Unintentional loss in weight will be noticed
- Weakness is also common due loss in weight.
Types Of Cryptococcosis:

Pulmonary Cryptococcosis:
It is the condition in which cryptoccocus are reported in the respiratory tract particularly from the septum and from the skin. These are reported usually in the healthy people who are exposed to polluted environment. The people suffering from Bronchitis and other related diseases can also suffer from this disease. The symptoms of these includes low – grade fever, cough and pleuritic pain.

Central Nervous System:
It is the condition in which the fungus disseminates up to the brain and its layers of meninges and its manifestation results in meningitis, cryptoccoma or meningoencephalitis. Symptoms of these develop over the time which includes headache in the initial stages which is later followed by irritability, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion,stiffness of the lungs, vomiting etc.
Apart from these there are cutaneous type of Cryptococcosis in which the infection is on the skin in any part, bone Cryptococcosis in which the infection takes place in any of the bone or bones of the body, similarly ocular Cryptococcosis in which infection takes place in the eyes of the patient.
