Murdha Taila is an Ayurvedic Therapy meant for curing Scalp Ailments. It literally means application of oil (Taila) on head(Murdha). It is beneficial in prevention of hair fall, breaking , graying , various diseases of head and increasing the efficiency of the organs of the head.
Types of Murdha Taila:
There are four types of Murdha Taila Therapy Techniques. They are:
Shiro-Abhyanga:
Oil is smeared on head followed by a gentle massage.
Shiro-Seka:
Medicated Oil is poured overhead in a continuous stream.
Shiro-Pichu:
A special pad called the pichu retains the oil in the head for 3 to 4 hours.
Shiro-Basti:
It is superior among the types of Murdha Taila Message Therapy.
The Shiro-Basti Technique of Head Massage:
The person comfortably sits on a chair. The head of the person is shaved. He wears a specially designed cap of leather with size 12″ * 12″. This cap is called the Shiro Basti. Warm Medicated oil, Milk and a substance similar to Butter called Ghee are poured inside the cap up to a height of 2″. The decoction is retained over the head for 45 minutes. Then, the liquid is removed from the head. It is followed by a gentle massage of head, neck and shoulders.

- It is helpful in chronic Migraine, Facial Paralysis, Dandruff and Insomnia.
- It is prescribed in cases involving loss of sensation of scalp.
- It provides relief from defective vision, dryness of nose and mouth.
- It strengthens the voice,lower jaw and the head.
