Grave’s Disease – Grave’s Eye Disease

Grave’s disease is an autoimmune disease which leads to the over activity of thyroid glands, causing a disease called Hyperthyroidism. It is most commonly found in women. It is caused because of the formation of the auto antibodies which bind to the receptor in the thyroid cell membrane and stimulate the gland to hyper function.

The symptoms of this disease are weakness, fatigue, double vision, increased eye tearing, infrequent or absent menstrual periods. Abnormal enlargement of breast takes place in men. Increase in hair loss will be the major symptoms.

Grave’s Eye Disease:

In some percentage of cases the white blood cells attack the fat and the muscle which is at the back of the eyes. This results in inflammation in and around the eyes, swelling of both the upper and lower eyelids, pain around the eyes, sometimes double vision and rarely loss of vision. The eyelids can be too widely opened which can interfere the way the eyelids blink and lubricate the eyes which results in the irritation of the eye surface and discomfort.

The eyelids can be widely opened this can intervene the way in which the eyes blink and lubricate the eyes. As the eyes are swollen so the proper movement of eyes will be there. This means both the eyes cannot work together resulting in the double vision. As there is sever swelling behind the eyes so the eyes will be pushed forward in the socket. As the result of the continuous pressure behind the eyes damage can be caused to the eyes.
