Balasana: One of the Ultimate Resting Postures in Yogasana

balasana.jpgBeing a resting pose, Balasana is usually done before or after practicing an asana. The child pose is so named because it resembles the posture of a sleeping child.

  1. Sit on your heels and bring your toes close together. Separate your knees about as wide as your hips.
  2. Inhale and lengthen your spine.
  3. While exhaling extend your body forward from the hips to the floor. Let your body rest between the inner thighs.
  4. Palms up, lay your hands alongside the torso.
  5. Release the front of your shoulders towards the floor.
  6. Stay in the pose for few minutes and observe your breath.
  7. Slowly lift your torso and come back to the initial position while inhaling.

Balasana soothes your mind and relieves stress, anxiety and fatigue. It increases the flow of blood to the brain. Avoid practicing Balasana if you are suffering from any knee injury, have diarrhea or are pregnant.
