Yoga for Arthritis (Feet)

arthfeet.jpgApart from your hands, your feet are also affected by arthritis. Damage to the cartilage results in swelling and pain in the joints of the ankles. Practicing two of the following exercises will help increase the flexibility, improve the movement and reduce pain and swelling in the joints.

Ankle Bending

  1. Sit on the floor and stretch out your legs. Let your palms rest on the floor at the backside for support. Bend your right foot towards you at right angles to the floor.
  2. Exhale as you bring the toes of your right foot forward and towards the floor.
  3. Inhale and bring your foot back to the right angle position.
  4. Repeat at least 8 times.
  5. Do the same exercise with your left foot.

Ankle Rotation

  1. Sit on the floor, lean your back against a wall and stretch out your legs.
  2. Place your palms on the floor.
  3. Keep your foot at right angles to the floor.
  4. Rotate your ankles clockwise and anticlockwise 10 times. While doing this, take care not to move your knees.
  5. Repeat the same exercise with your left foot.
  6. After few days of practice, you can do this exercise on both feet at the same time.

These exercises will warm up your joints and reduce the pain, swelling and stiffness of your feet. So, discover the joy of yoga…
