Yoga for Sinusitis

pranayama.jpgSinusitis is a common ailment that affects millions of people in the US. It is an inflammation of the sinuses. It can cause pain in the several areas of the face, head and neck.

Surya bhedan pranayama

This pranayama aims at awakening the pingla nadi.

  1. Sit in a comfortable cross legged position and close your eyes.
  2. Close the left nostril with the little finger of your right hand and inhale through your right nostril.
  3. Close the right nostril with the thumb of your right hand and exhale through the left nostril.
  4. Retain the breath by resting the chin on your chest. Every time you repeat this, increase the time during which you retain the breath.

Nadi shodhan pranayama

  1. By sitting in padmasana or cross legged pose, close the right nostril with the thumb of your right hand and inhale through the left nostril.
  2. After inhaling deeply and completely, hold your breath by closing both your nostrils.
  3. Slowly exhale by closing the left nostril with the ring and the little finger and releasing the right.
  4. Close the left nostril and inhale through the right.
  5. Closing both the nose, hold your breath.
  6. Slowly exhale through your left nostril.
  7. Here completes one cycle of pranayama.
