Before you begin practicing yoga, there are few things to be taken care of. Along with dedication and regular practice, yoga also demands some changes in your lifestyle. Below are given some matter that you need to be cautious about and which you need to follow while practicing yoga.
- For children below 12 years of age, yoga should not be practiced for a very long duration.
- Yoga should not be done in full stomach. The time most suitable for practicing yoga is either morning hours or evening hours. You must not have consumed any food 3 hours prior to, or 3 hours after practicing yoga. Even liquid should be consumed one hour before doing the asanas.
- Before practicing yoga exercises, empty your bowels and bladder.
- Wear clothing that is loose and comfortable.
- If you are suffering from any disease or injury, inform your instructor. There might be some yoga exercises which will not be suitable for you. Practicing them might even worsen your condition.
- Practice yoga daily for at least half an hour to get maximum benefit.
- For practicing yoga choose a place that is spacious, bright, clean and has fresh air circulation.
- Avoid spicy food. Vegetarian diet is preferred.
- Use a mat carpet or rug to perform yogasanas. It should not be practiced in empty stomach.
- Do not practice yoga during menstruation.

Couple of questions.
In number 6 you mean practice for half an hour a day for MINIMUM benefit right? I can’t see how 30 minutes would provide maximum benefit.
In number 8 does “avoid spicy food” mean relative to yoga practice or in general?
Then in number two are you suggesting that if I intend to practice at 6pm (for 60 minutes) then I should not eat between the hours of 3pm and 10pm?

1. practicing yoga everyday would give you maximum benefit rather than skipping the practice.
2. it is better to avoid spicy food for those who are practicing yoga.
3. in that case you must not have food between 3pm and 9pm.
