Yoga for dogs

A new craze in America is ‘ruff yoga’, or ‘doga’, where people take their dogs to yoga classes. They read their pooches dog stories, give them a big kiss, and put them in yoga positions so that the dogs can concentrate, which makes it easier for their owners to take them for walks in the park. Does this sound weird to you?

Natural therapies have been helping pets for a long time nowAccording to veterinarian, “Dogs do yoga naturally.”

Have you ever noticed when your dog or cat wakes up in the morning or after an afternoon nap and they have a biiigggg stretch.According to the vets dogs and cats  “do the most classic yoga stretches and exercises.”

Some yoga positions had actually been taken from animals. There’s one that’s called the cat position, then there’s the downward dog. Dog praying position, a lot of descriptions of yoga positions are from animals or from dogs.

So why if your animal already does their own version of yoga, should you take the pets to a yoga class?

It might not help, if you have your dog standing on it’s head for too long, it might not be very good for the blood pressure, but yoga is definitely a good thing for the owners and carers of these animals, it’s good at relaxing them.

There is quite a strong communication between animals and their owners or carers, and if something effects one, it can also pass-on effects to the other. Certainly in relaxing people or relaxing animals, if either the owner or the animal can be helped to relax, it has a benefit on the two.

Apart from Yoga for Dogs there is also homeopathic treatments for skin complaints.Especially in the summer time, but right through the year. This is a good example where conventional medicine is not always able to find the answer. Partly because we’re trained to think of symptoms involving the skin being a skin problem, but it’s only one set of symptoms and there’s often an underlying problem.

If you have a more holistic, a more open approach to invest getting what’s going on… where as usually there’s an emotional or some other kind of problem ‘underneath’.

If your pet has any medical problems, we advise that you take them to your local vet before treatment.
