How To Boost Your Memory With Simple Lifestyle Changes…

Do you often find yourself forgetting names, car keys, or your own telephone number? Don’t worry, you are not alone. It often gets harder to remember things as you get older. Short-term memory lapses can be frustrating and embarassing, but you can overcome such forgetfulness with a few lifestyle changes.

1. Make your plate colorful: Foods containing antioxidants, like veggies and fruits (such as berries) have a beneficial effect on the brain. They help the neurotransmitters to function better and prevent plaque buildup in the brain (a sign of Alzheimer’s). Also eat nuts like almonds and walnuts.

2. Get 8 hours of sleep every night: Lack of sleep is bad for your memory and concentration. Sleep helps you focus and improves your cognitive abilities. Even a few hours of sleep depreviation can cause the brain to function as poorly as it does after a few drinks.

3. Exercise: Exercise and brisk walking gets your heart pumping faster and improves the blood flow. This allows oxygen to be carried to the remotest corners of the brain, enabling it to function better.

4. Handle stress and slow down: Stress can make the brain age faster and make you forgetful. Free your mind of that excess baggage by taking a break, going on a holiday, meditation, watching your fav. comedy movies or cultivating hobbies and other interests. Play your fav. sport that gives you bliss.

5. Mental stimulation: Stimulate your grey cells and improve your cognitive function by playing puzzles and memory games for sometime everyday or 3-4 times a week.

6. See a doctor: Get help from a doctor if you are suffering from depression or anxiety. Depression can be too bad for your brain and can interfere with your cogitive ability.

7. Get rid of clutter: Organise your life and get rid of un-necessary clutter. Identify and eliminate distractions that interfere with your ability to focus. It’s easier to remember things if the information is organised and meaningful.

8. Take help of other things: Don’t take the burden of remembing every little thing that you come across everyday. Information overload can actually make you more forgetful. Use address books, calendars, shopping lists, appointment books and to-do lists to recall information without having to memorize it. Making a list by writing down something helps free your mind of day-to-day tasks, so that you can focus on other important things.
