Take Fish Oil During Pregnancy To Boost Your Baby’s Coordination

According to a news study, women who take high doses of fish oil during pregnancy can dramatically boost the baby’s coordination. Fish oils can also help mums-to-be by reducing high blood pressure and easing post-natal depression.

It was noted that there was a significant improvement in hand-eye coordination among kids whose mothers took fish oil supplements during the second half of pregnancy. There was also significant improvement in brainpower and vocabulary among children exposed to fish oil supplements in the womb.

This new study is the latest evidence highlighting that omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oils can indeed enhance children’s development. Omega 3s play an important part in the development of the central nervous system.

Moms-to-be should take fish oil supplements particularly in the last three months of pregnancy because there is a growth spurt in the human brain during this time, and this carries on to the first few months of the baby’s life.

Earlier research also suggests that taking cod liver oil during pregnancy may increase birthweight and reduce the risk of developing type 1 diabetes in the baby.

The Food Standards Agency recommends pregnant and breast-feeding women to eat one or two portions of oily fish a week, avoiding those with high mercury content such as swordfish. Women who fear eating fish because of the mercury risks, can take high quality capsules.
