The San Fransisco based Jamba Juice Co. has warned consumers in the Southwest that smoothies containing strawberries might be contaminated with a potentially deadly bacterium.

The warning applies to smoothies sold at Jamba Juice stores located in Arizona, southern Nevada and Southern California. The company, however, said that it did not receive any reports of confirmed illnesses.

Jamba Juice issued the warning on Tuesday after one of its suppliers, said that frozen strawberries from one of its facilities tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

The bacterium may sometimes cause fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weak immune systems. It can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. People may also develop fevers, headaches, nausea, diarrhea and other symptoms.
