Abortion Pill May Fight Breast Cancer

According to a recent study, the chemical compound found in RU-486, an abortion pill blocks the growth of breast tumors. The study suggests a potential new path to protect women from these deadly cancers by using drugs that interfere with a hormone called progesterone.

The team led by University of California found that the compound, mifepristone, prevented breast tumors by blocking progesterone in mouse breast tissue cells.

Some of the women diagnosed with these cancers need to get a surgery. Now this study may provide some hope by giving another option to use drugs instead of surgery.
