The growing number of news reports regarding child abductions and television shows such as CSI is driving the interest of people in keeping genetic records that may help them identify remains, hair or blood.
To make this easily accessible to parents, there are kits available that include a photo, a collection swab, fingerprints and a special envelope in which to put the DNA sample. These kits are being distributed by private companies, police stations, orthodontists and others. They are priced between $5 to $60, but some are available for free too.
