In a desperate bid to combat bird flu, South Korea is planning to kill cats and dogs in order to prevent the possible spread of bird flu, after the outbreak of deadly H5N1 virus at a chicken farm last week. But experts are questioning this decision to slaughter other animals.
Animal health experts, are however feeling that it is an extreme measure asĀ there is no scientific evidence to prove that cats or dogs could pass the virus to humans.
There is a plan to slaughter a total of 236,000 poultry, and other animals, including pigs, dogs and cats in the area by Thursday. And about 6 million eggs will also be destroyed.
This will be quite an unusual slaughter of cats and dogs, as Indonesia has killed pigs in the past, but most countries concentrate solely on destroying poultry.
