Folic Acid Reduces The Risk Of Heart Disease And Strokes

spi.jpgAccording to a new research, folic acid can reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes. Folic acid lowers the levels of homocysteine in blood, which is a cause of cardiovascular disease.

David Wald, of the Wolfson Institute for Preventive Medicine said,”The evidence is very persuasive that folic acid can lower your risk of heart attack and stroke by about 10-20 % .

The scientists concluded that low homocysteine levels have a protective effect. The study was published in the British Medical Journal.

So increase the consumption of folic acid in your daily diet. Food sources of folic acid include fortified breakfast cereals, Whole wheat products, Liver, Eggs, Beans, chickpeas, broccoli, lentils, sunflower seeds, asparagus, collard greens, strawberries, oranges, cantaloupes and other melons, papaya, spinach and all other dark green leafy vegetables.
