Too Much Of Job Stress May Lead To Diabetes

str.jpgThe daily rigors of work, such as tight schedules, deadlines and long hours may lead to serious ailments and can be very damaging for your health in the long run.

A new study showed that people who experienced job burnout, were 1.8 times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes, in which a person’s body becomes resistant to the sugar-regulating hormone called insulin. Researchers suggest that stress can have a more direct effect by disrupting the body’s ability to process glucose, leading to diabetes.

Workplace stress may also trigger heart disease, high blood pressure, flu virus and metabolic syndrome.

Stress can negate the healthy benefits of a physically active job, leading to thicker arteries in stressed workers. Stress can also lead to unhealthy behavior, such as poor eating habits or drinking more alcohol, that may be harmful for health.

When work stress becomes unmanageable, it may often lead to emotional exhaustion, physical fatigue and cognitive weariness (slow thinking).
