Research shows that the key to staying happy and healthy is socializing. Not staying connected with your friends poses the same risk to your health as high blood pressure, obesity and even smoking.
Sociologist Lynn Smith-Lovin of Duke University says, “More Americans in the last 20 years say that they have fewer close friends or people in their lives with whom they can discuss important matters”. But staying connected keeps us healthier and happier.
Doctors agree that a good chat or a regular girls’ night out can do wonders for your health. Staying aloof and not mingling with friends can also lead to depression in some cases.
“Feeling cared for and supported within a social network is particularly important for women in fostering self-care” says Todd Jackson, author of a study published this year, linking high levels of social support and community involvement with healthier diet, exercise and sleep habits, among other positive effects.
So the next time your mom shouts at you when you go out with your friends, just remind her that you are trying to remain fit and healthy !!!
