Ana Carolina Reston, a Brazilian supermodel, who modelled for Giorgio Armani died on Tuesday at the tender age of 21.
This news comes exactly a month after the body weight controversy in the modelling circuit. At a height of 5 feet 8 inches, Ana weighed only 88 pounds and was battling with Anorexia. She ate only apples and tomatoes in the last days of her life. She had to be hospitalised because of a generalised infection.
The issue of ultra-thin models has been a big topic of discussion in the modelling circuit. It may be recalled that there was a ban in September on ultra thin models at the Madrid Fashion Week. The ban was imposed weeks after 22-year-old model Luisel Ramos, of Brazil, died of a heart attack after stepping off a catwalk.
Ana Carolina Reston, had worked in China, Turkey, Mexico and Japan for several modeling agencies. The hospital said the infection that killed her was caused by anorexia nervosa, a disorder where there is an abnormal fear of becoming obese, severe weight loss and an aversion to food.
Ana’s mother, Miriam, told a newspaper,”Take care of your children because their loss is irreparable, Nothing can make the pain go away. No money in the world is worth the life of your child”.
So all you guys and girls out there, who starve themselves to death, just wake up now. Your obsession with weight loss is not going to land you anywhere. Eat healthy and get a life !!!
