Yoga for Beginners: Yoga Postures or Asanas in Sitting Position

Dhyana Mudra

Position: Sitting Position

Procedure

  • Keep the wrists of the hands on the respective knees and palms facing upwards.
  • Keep the palms open and join the tips of the thumb and index fingers of both the hands, forming a circle in between them.
  • Keep the remaining 3 fingers together and relax. This position of the hands is caled Dhyana Mudra.

Swastikasana

Position: Sitting position. Keep the backbone erect.

Procedure

  • Once you sit, spread both the legs and keep them ata distance of 1 feet.
  • Bend the left leg in knee and place the soul of left leg touching the inner side of the right thigh.
  • Then bend the right leg in knee and place its foot in between the thigh and calf of the left leg.
  • Now keep both your wrists on the respective knees and do Dhyana Mudra.
  • Continue breathing normally.

Effects

This asana is useful for concentration and meditation. Since the backbone is kept erect, its functioning is greatly improved. And Dhyana Mudra stabilizes the pulse rate. The strain on muscles is reduced, which in turn reduces the strain on heart.
