How To Treat Bee Stings and Insect Bites At Home

Insect Bites and Stings can be really painful and annoying if not treated on time. As soon as an insect bites, you will notice redness, swelling and itching on the bitten area.

Here are some home remedies to treat insect bites and stings:

  1. If a stinger is still in the skin, first remove it carefully. If a part of the stinger remains in the skin, apply a poultice to safely draw the stinger out. Wet some stale bread with milk and apply. You may need to repeat this, once it gets dried.
  2. Then wash the sting with soap and water, or with hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the germs. Hydrogen peroxide cleans well and does not sting at all.
  3. If you have got a bee sting, take a cigarette and break it. Take out the tobacco and moisten it with water. Apply this to the sting with a band-aid. The tobacco will take away the swelling and pain from it. You can also apply chewing tobacco to the sting.
  4. In case of a bee or hornet sting, remove the stinger. Cut an onion in half and gently rub it on the affected region. The redness, pain and swelling will be gone in a few minutes.
  5. Put a slice of dill pickle on a bee sting.
  6. Apply lemon juice.
  7. For ant bites, bee stings and wasp stings, remove the stinger and apply the paste of baking soda and very cold water. But apply this several times if it gets dried.
  8. To get immediate relief from a bee sting, mosquito bite or wasp sting, apply a paste of unseasoned meat tenderizer and water. Leave it on for at least half an hour, to remove the pain and itch.
  9. Take an aspirin, melt it with some water and make a paste. Apply on the sting.
  10. Or you can add a dab of mustard to the affected area.
  11. Ice can also be applied.
  12. A slice of raw onion or a slice of raw potato also works.
  13. Mix straight natural apple cider vinegar with baking soda and make a paste. Apply to the affected area.
  14. To draw out the venom in case of a wasp sting, rub some onion juice or natural apple cider vinegar on the bite.
  15. A mud or clay paste can also be used to remove the venom.
  16. Take the leaf of a leek, split it and apply the inside surface to the bite.
  17. To remove swelling, use a wet tea bag as a poultice. The tannic acid in tea helps to get rid of swelling. And Black tea is the most effective.
  18. For ant bites, put a slice of cucumber on the affected area.
  19. Apply a poultice using winter or summer savory leaves on bites & stings.
  20. To reduce swelling, put a drop of Lavender Essential Oil or Eucalyptus Essential Oil on the affected area.
  21. You can also apply comfrey ointmenticon as a soothing salve.
  22. To drive out mosquitoes and insects from your home, burn some Margosa leaves (Neem leaves) in a small vessel, the smoke will keep the insects at bay.
