Athlete’s foot is a fungus infection most commonly found in young people, especially men. Athlete’s foot attacks the area between toes, soles, fingernails and toenails. Athlete’s Foot is caused by a fungus called dermatophytes. These fungi live on dead skin cells. This fungus thrives in warm and moist conditions. Warm places, such as gyms, locker rooms, bathrooms, showers and swimming pools are all breeding grounds of this fungus. Athlete’s foot is highly contagious and is transmitted by contact with wet floors, or infected shoes or socks.
Natural Ways to cure Athlete’s Foot:
1. Tea Tree Oil is the best cure for Athlete’s Foot. Add 30-40 drops of tea tree oil to a small amount of water and soak your feet in it for 20 minutes. Then dry your feet with disposable tissues and a hair dryer to ensure that there is no moisture for fungus to flourish.
Or you can put a few drops of tea tree essential oil on the affected areas four times a day. Continue doing this for another four weeks, even when your problem gets cleared up. You can do the same treatment for all kinds of nail fungus.
Spray tea tree oil (or rub Concentrate) on the feet everyday after bathing and before putting on socks and shoes.
2. Olive leaves can be used as an anti bacterial for infections. Take some Olive Leaf Extract and apply it on your feet. It is an excellent antiviral agent. It is also useful for flu, herpes, malaria, inflammation, high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic fatigue, colds and other fungal and yeast infections.
3. Take some fresh garlic slices and put them in your shoes, before wearing. And wear it all day long. This is the best way of curing athlete’s foot.
4. Drink pau d’arco tea. You can also soak your feet in a more concentrated solution of about 10 tea bags.
5. Soak your feet in warm salt water for 15 minutes everyday.
6. Apply a paste of baking soda between your toes on the fungus. Add a few drops of water to one tablespoon of baking soda and rub it on the affected parts. Then rinse off, dry your feet and powder your feet with corn starch. You can also apply some baking soda powder on your feet and between the toes after shower and dry your feet and toes thoroughly.
7. Soak your feet in apple cider vinegar for some time every day. It may give a will stinging sensation, but it will cure the irritation.
8. Soak your feet in tea. Take a large bowl and fill it with a quart of boiling water and add six tea bags to it. Let the tea become lukewarm, and soak your feet for half an hour in it. The tannic acid present in the tea kills the fungus and soothes the painful and itchy feet.
9. Soak your feet in warm water mixed with white vinegar for 20 – 30 minutes. Take one part white vinegar to four parts water, and do this twice a day, till the fungus is gone.
10. Apply Sesame oil to your feet. Sesame oil is good for ring worm and other foot problems also. Rub a little oil on the affected areas once a day.
11. Or you can try using Gallberry Root. Boil some gallberry roots in a pot of water. Let it become likewarm, then soak your feet in this solution. Do this every day till the fungus is gone.
12. For immediate relief from itching or burning sensation, soak your feet in an antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine.
13. Corn starch is good at soaking excess moisture. So always keep your toes dry by sprinkling some corn starch on them.

When you are suffering from Athlete’s foot problem, follow these simple rules:
- Always keep your feet dry.
- Use disposable tissues and hair dryer to dry your feet instead of a towel.
- Use antifungal powder rather than antifungal cream.
- Do not wear the same socks twice.
- Wash your socks in hot water to kill the germs.
- Do not share socks or shoes with anyone.
- Use cotton socks instead of synthetic ones.
- Use some antiperspirant to keep your toe fingers dry.
- Clean your shoes from inside by using a tissue or a cotton cloth. And use only natural fiber footwear.
- Use mild soaps on your feet and avoid deodorant soaps.
- Avoid eating baked and highly processed food that has high yeast content in it. Also avoid alcohol, cola drinks, sugar and grains. Garlic has antifungal properties, so eat raw garlic or include it in your daily diet.
- And you can prevent athlete’s foot by wearing plastic sandals in a shower room, locker room, etc.
