Benefits of Camomile

The word

chamomile

is derived from the Greek chamos (ground) and melos (apple). The name

Chamomile

or

Camomile

can refer to several distinct species of plant:

  • Camomile German
  • Camomile Common
  • Camomile Stinking

It is also called as Manzanilla is Spanish. All the Chamomiles have a tiny, chaffy scale between each two florets, which is very minute. The fruit is small and dry, and as it forms, the hill of the receptacle gets more and more conical. The whole plant is downy and greyishgreen in colour. It prefers dry commons and sandy soil. There are essentially two different species of chamomile that are used for supplements and balms. These are the German and the Roman varieties. In Great Britain, the most commonly available is the Roman chamomile while the rest of the world has greater access to German chamomile.

Now let’s look into the few benefits of this herb:

  • Chamomile is a cumulative treatment. It gives relief in a quick span of time. A sensible amount of dosage or consumption of this herb would cause no side effects.
  • The most common use for chamomile is as a muscle relaxant. Chamomile supplements are available as creams or as tablets, or alternatively you can buy the flowers of the plant from health stores and brew your own chamomile
  • Using chamomile as a muscle relaxant can help with menstrual cramps as well as other muscle complaints and should be taken internally.
  • Chamomile can be used for burns, allergies and other problems. However in case of burns cream is not suggested as it creates more irritation on the wound as it traps heat because of oil substances present in the cream.
  • For burns one should use cooled chamomile tea on a clean dressing. With other skin irritation you can choose to use creams, take capsules or drink the pleasantly fragranced.
  • The active ingredients found in the flower of chamomile are volatile oils, also know as essential oils. Essential oils act by soothing irritated skin or tissue and are proven to help with skin irritations.
  • These are the oils that help skin complaints as well as acne and other problems.
  • Apart from the treatment of aches and pains, doctors and researchers have found that chamomile can be used effectively to treat skin and eye problems, mood disorders and even the flu!
