Insomnia or lack of sleep is caused by several reasons. You can try the following techniques for treating insomnia:
- Avoid a diet containing white flour products, sugar and its products, tea, coffee, chocolate, cola drinks, alcohol, fatty foods and fried foods in the night.
- Put a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil on your pillow, on your night dress or on your temples. Or, you can also put the oil in a diffuser in your bedroom. The lavender slows the activity of the nervous system, promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety and improves sleep quality. If you are using a candle diffuser, be sure someone else is around to blow out the candle once you fall asleep.
- If your case is so severe that the lavender essential oil is not working, you can take Valerian Root in capsule form. Valerian Root will let your body and mind totally relax with no drug hangover the next morning.
- Or chop a yellow onion and put it in a jar with a lid. Place on your night table. When you can’t sleep, open the jar and take a few good whiffs. Lie back and think something good. And try bringing a yawn. Or, you can have a cup of relaxing herbal tea. Camomile, dill, anise, or rosemary should do the trick.
- Thiamine or vitamin B is of special significance in the treatment of insomnia. Valuable sources of this vitamin are wholegrain cereals, pulses, and nuts.
- Lettuce is also beneficial in the treatment of insomnia as it contains a sleep-inducing substance. Lettuce seeds taken in a decoction are also useful for insomnia. One tablespoon of seeds should be boiled in half a litre of water, till it is reduced to one-third.
- Milk is also very valuable for the treatment of insomnia. A glass of milk, sweetened with honey, should be taken every night before going to bed. It acts as a tonic and a tranquilliser.
- Honey is beneficial in the treatment of insomnia. It induces a sound sleep. It should be taken with water, before going to bed, in doses of two teaspoons in a large cup of water.
